JANE AVERY - PRODUCER, DIRECTOR

Jane hails from New Zealand’s South Island.

After gaining a post-graduate diploma in journalism from the University of Canterbury in 1993, she worked as a news reporter for Radio New Zealand in Timaru.

Her television career began a year later in Dunedin, where she helped establish and reported for a daily regional news programme. The following year she transferred to national news, reporting for Television New Zealand, based out of Christchurch.

At the beginning of 1999, Jane left New Zealand with travel and freelancing on the agenda.  Upon making her way to Beijing, she teamed up with Jeff Avery. Their freelance work in China included documentaries, a music magazine show, TVCs, corporate image pieces, and news feature stories.

Jane has been living in Auckland since 2000 where, along with being a mother, she has worked as an independent television producer and director.

After a stint reporting for TVNZ’s leading daily current affairs programme, Holmes, Jane has produced corporate productions (Fonterra), Air New Zealand In-flight programming, two thirteen part travel documentary series (Destination New Zealand I & II) and documentary coverage of the annual New Zealand Alpine Ski Racing competition.

Most recently Jane has poured her energy into an independent project producing and directing a six part travel/cooking series based in Marrakech, Morocco with television personality Peta Mathias.

With over fifteen years of media experience, from behind the scenes to on-camera presenting and voiceover work, Jane’s talents focus around adept writing and producing skills, along with the ability to work under pressure and to deadline.
